Board the authentic sternwheeler Discovery III for a fully narrated tour along the Chena and Tanana rivers. See a bush floatplane takeoff alongside the boat, visit the home and kennels of the late four-time Iditarod winner Susan Butcher and see her champion sled dogs in action. Be immersed in frontier living and Alaska Native culture as our Alaska Native guides take you ashore to visit our living museum, Chena Village. At the end of the guided tour, you will have time to explore the village on your own and visit dogs from Susan Butcher’s kennels.
Departure Details: The cruise departs from the Riverboat Discovery dock located at 1975 Discovery Drive. Please check in at least 30 minutes prior to the cruise departure.

Train rides, entertaining tales, and hands-on gold planning make this tour perfect for would-be miners of all ages. Before you board the train, get a close up view of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and information displays about the pipeline. Then hop on the train for a ride on a replica of the Tanana Valley Railroad and hear the conductor and local miners provide commentary about the history of mining in Alaska. The short train ride takes you to Gold Dredge #8 where you will see first-hand how the dredge worked the gold fields and then receive a brief but informative course on gold panning.
Once the train arrives at the camp you will receive a poke sack filled with pay dirt and get a chance to pan for gold. You will find gold, it’s guaranteed! After you pan for gold, explore the dredge and feel the history come alive.
Departure Details: The Gold Dredge is located 7 miles north of Fairbanks. Guests must check-in at least 15 minutes prior to the tour at the tour train station to receive a train boarding pass.
